The Lunar Nodes: North and South Node, Your Karmic Axis
Deep Oracle Editorial Team · 2026-06-06 · 1 min read
The lunar nodes are not physical bodies but the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic. Always opposite (180° apart), they form a meaningful "growth axis" in the chart, read as this life's direction of work.
The South Node: Your Comfort Zone
The South Node (☋) represents innate, well-worn gifts and old patterns — what you're already good at and even unconsciously retreat to. Comfortable and safe, it can also breed stagnation; over-relying on it spins you in place.
The North Node: Your Growth Direction
The North Node (☊) represents what you're here to develop — often unfamiliar and uncomfortable. Moving toward it takes courage and deliberate practice, but it is the growth your soul longs for: not comfortable, yet genuinely fulfilling.
Reading the Axis
- The North Node's sign and house show the qualities and life area to cultivate this life.
- The nodes are one axis: developing the North Node doesn't mean abandoning the South Node's gifts, but carrying that old talent in a new direction.
- In synastry, node contacts often bring a strong "destined" feeling and a pull toward growth.
A Mindset Note
The nodes describe a direction and tendency for growth, not a fixed script. Real growth comes from your conscious choices. See your nodes with the free natal chart calculator.
