Definition

The Direct Wealth structure (正财格, Zheng Cai Ge) is the pattern hinged on the month command's Direct Wealth. It forms when the month branch's main qi is Direct Wealth (e.g. a Jia Wood Day Master born in the Wei month, where the Ji earth inside Wei is the Direct Wealth in command), or when Direct Wealth among the month branch's hidden stems is transparent at the stems.

Two questions answered up front:

• What counts as formation? Either of two moves suffices: Output as the source of the Wealth (Output generates Wealth), or an Officer drawing the wealth-qi upward into nobility (Wealth generates Officer, draining the excellence). In both, the Day Master must be rooted in the branches to carry the wealth.
• What counts as breakage? When Companions mass at the stems, or a strong Companion root forms a branch frame, fighting over and dividing the Wealth star — "Companions robbing Wealth." Once a crowd contends for wealth with no restraint or transformation, the structural pressure of money coming and going, gathering and scattering, sets in.

Direct Wealth signifies salary, property, and enterprise built through professional ability and sustained operation — distinct from the floating quality of Indirect Wealth.

Classical Foundation

The pivot of the Zi Ping Zhen Quan, chapter "On Wealth" (《子平真诠·论财》): the Wealth star is "with feeling" only when it has Output as its source, and most fears Companions massing to contend. The Officer's role is to drain the Wealth's excellence, keeping it from stagnating and channeling it to the upper structure. Paraphrasing the chapter, the crux of formation is that "Wealth must have feeling" — either generated by Output or drawn out by an Officer; the core disease of breakage is Companions rising to rob the Wealth, after which the Day Master stands weak and isolated and the Wealth, though in command, cannot be used.

Roads to Formation

1. Output generates Wealth. With Direct Wealth in command and an Eating God or Hurting Officer transparent as its source, Output drains the Day Master's essence into Wealth — steady realization through craft, creativity, and intelligence. Hard requirement: the Day Master must be rooted (Jia meeting Yin, Mao, Chen, Wei…), or excessive draining yields "a poor man in a rich house." Example fragment: a Jia Day Master born in Wei with the Ji-earth Direct Wealth in command and Bing Fire Eating God transparent at the hour — Bing transforms Jia's qi to generate the Ji-earth Wealth; so long as Jia sits on Yin or Chen, this forms Output-generating-Wealth.

2. Wealth generates Officer, draining excellence. With Direct Wealth in command and a Direct Officer (or, second-best, Seven Killings) transparent, the wealth-qi flows naturally to the Officer, which restrains Companions and shows nobility — channeling the wealth tension up to career and status without needing Output. The key: the Officer must not be directly controlled by a Hurting Officer. Example fragment: a Jia Day Master born in Wei with Ji-earth Direct Wealth transparent at the hour and Xin-metal Direct Officer at the month — so long as the Xin is not closely controlled by a Ding Hurting Officer, Wealth smoothly generates the Officer.

Breakage and Rescue

Disease — Companions robbing Wealth. Multiple Companions transparent at the stems, or a strong Day-Master branch frame (Jia meeting an eastern Yin-Mao-Chen frame), contend directly with the Wealth star — wealth hard-won and hard to keep, prone to partnership losses and competitive attrition.

Breaking example: Jia-Yin · Xin-Wei · Jia-Yin · Wu-Chen. Jia born in Wei, the Ji-earth Direct Wealth in command, Wu-earth Indirect Wealth transparent at the hour; the year-pillar Jia-Yin Companion sits on its salary, the Day branch is again Yin — Companions in force. The month-stem Xin Direct Officer floats on Wei earth, too weak to restrain the strong branch wood, and the crowd-robbing-wealth posture is set. Without rescue, scattered wealth is the norm.

Rescue — Output as the transformer. An Eating God or Hurting Officer drains the Companions' qi and turns it to generate the Wealth — rivals turned into people who help you earn. Rewrite the hour pillar above as Bing-Yin (Jia-Yin · Xin-Wei · Jia-Yin · Bing-Yin): the Bing Fire Eating God, rooted in Yin, drains the two Jia-Yin Companions and turns to generate the Wei-earth Wealth. Bing is the bridging god; success or failure turns on this one point.

Common Misconceptions

• "Wealth in command means wealth." Wealth-heavy-body-weak is "a poor man in a rich house"; formation requires a Day Master rooted and supported enough to carry the Wealth.
• "Any Companion is bad." Companions robbing Wealth is a serious fear, but with a strong transparent Output (Bing rooted in Si/Wu) or an Officer restraining the Robbers in place, Companions can be turned into a force that generates Wealth. Read restraint-and-transformation, not single spirits.
• "Only Output-generates-Wealth is orthodox." Wealth-generates-Officer is equally a classical formation; which road applies depends on the chart's actual transparency and frame.
