The Boundaries of BaZi — What Chart Reading Cannot Tell You

Why this article needs to exist
Most divination services only talk about what they can do, dodging what they can't — because the latter sounds like lowering expectations and hurting conversion. Deep Oracle's choice is the inverse: state the boundaries first, then let readers decide whether to use the tools. This isn't a marketing strategy — it's the floor of divination ethics.
This article catalogues by category the questions BaZi reading cannot answer. If you see any divination service (including Deep Oracle itself) crossing these boundaries, you should be on alert.
Category 1: Precise event prediction
BaZi cannot tell you:
- What specific event will happen on June 15, 2026
- The specific position, industry, or salary of your next job
- Your partner's name, appearance, or profession
- Your child's birth date, gender, or number
- The specific return on a particular investment
- Whether a specific trip will go smoothly (unless very specific danger-star activations are present)
Why these are structural boundaries, not technical limitations: BaZi reading's output granularity is "structural tendency" — some period leans auspicious or inauspicious in some life domain. Going from "leans auspicious" to "will get a 10% raise on June 15" requires not a more precise BaZi algorithm, but synthesizing BaZi with real-world factors (industry cycles, personal decisions, random events) — and those aren't in BaZi's input scope.
Classical literature does record specific event predictions like "in year X month Y, event Z will occur" — but examining those cases carefully, the practitioner clearly knew a great deal about the native's real situation (family background, current career, health). They were "BaZi + real-world intelligence" composite judgments, not pure BaZi output. Deep Oracle has none of the reader's real-world intelligence; we can only operate at the structural layer.
Category 2: Specific medical, psychological, or legal questions
BaZi cannot tell you:
- Whether you have a specific disease
- Whether a particular symptom warrants medical attention
- Which medication you should take
- Whether you need psychotherapy / antidepressants
- Whether you'll win or lose a particular legal dispute
- Whether a particular contract has legal vulnerabilities
Why the YMYL boundary is especially hard here: YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) is Google's core content-quality standard — content affecting readers' money or health faces especially high quality bars. Divination services giving "specific advice" in medical, legal, or financial domains is overreach — these fields have professional licensing, statutory liability frameworks, and structurally cannot be replaced by chart reading.
All Deep Oracle reading outputs carry YMYL framing statements (e.g. the relevant sections in the in-depth BaZi reading). This isn't legal disclaimer formalism — it's a real boundary marker.
Category 3: Hidden or undisclosed facts
BaZi cannot tell you:
- Whether your partner is having an affair (unless their chart is also input AND clearly shows it — and that judgment itself crosses privacy ethics)
- Whether your business partner is deceiving you (same)
- Specific events that happened when you weren't present
- The meaning of your dreams
- The true motivation behind a specific decision
Structural boundary: BaZi's input is birth time, output is "this person's chart-structure tendencies." It is NOT divination by query (which 《I Ching》 does — input "current question + casting action"), NOT mediumship, NOT a practitioner's "intuitive sight."
Judgments about undisclosed facts — no matter how the divination service packages them ("the native is hiding something," "the wealth treasury has been moved") — are overreach.
Category 4: Moral judgments
BaZi cannot tell you:
- Whether a specific choice of yours is "right" or "wrong"
- Whether a friend is a "good" or "bad" person
- Whether you should choose A or B (the decision itself belongs to you)
- Whether you "deserve" a particular relationship or opportunity
Structural boundary: BaZi reading outputs structural auspicious / inauspicious tendencies, not moral evaluations. "Wealth star is clashed" is a factual statement; "this is karmic retribution for your greed" is a moral projection. Practitioners packaging auspicious judgments as moral judgments is a common overreach — readers should be alert.
Category 5: Long-range precision prediction
BaZi cannot tell you:
- Specific events 30 years out
- The time or manner of your death
- Specific achievement peaks (reaching a specific position / wealth figure)
Why precision drops as time extends: BaZi's luck-pillar scoring is essentially a judgment of "this decade's overall energy field," not a prediction of every day within that decade. Annual scoring refines to one year, monthly to one month — but that's the precision ceiling of BaZi reading. Going from "career pressure in 2030" to "on month X day Y of 2030, event Z occurs" requires real-world synthesis, beyond BaZi's output scope.
On "time of death" — classical literature has the 寿元 (lifespan) concept, but modern practitioners are largely conservative on lifespan judgments. Deep Oracle's policy is to NOT output lifespan judgments, because historical error rates in this domain are very high AND the topic touches readers' deepest anxieties — not a responsibility BaZi reading should bear.
Category 6: Cross-system simple equivalence
BaZi cannot tell you:
- What your Sun / Moon / Rising sign is (Western astrology concepts)
- Your tarot major arcana correspondence (tarot is a different system)
- Your Human Design type (composite system)
- Your Mayan calendar correspondence (Mayan calendar is independent)
Structural boundary: BaZi and other divination systems operate under different methodological frameworks; they're not dialects of the same language. See BaZi vs Western astrology methodology comparison. If a divination service forces mappings between different systems and outputs unified answers, that's fundamentally confusion-as-product.
Deep Oracle's overreach detection
We have these overreach checks on our own output:
- YMYL keyword detection: the in-depth BaZi reading output is scanned for YMYL keywords; any specific advice in medical / financial / legal domains triggers mandatory framing-statement insertion.
- Precise-date interception: model-generated "on month X day Y, event Z will occur" type sentences are flagged as overreach and downgraded.
- Moral language filter: "you are greedy / you are kind / you have a good fate" type moral judgments are identified and replaced with structural descriptions.
These checks aren't 100% perfect; overreach output occasionally slips through. If you see any boundary-crossing content in a Deep Oracle reading, please flag it via /contact — we use it as negative-sample training for the next model iteration.
