Calamity Star (灾煞): A BaZi Spirit-Star

Definition

Zai Sha (the Calamity Star), also called the "White Tiger," is an inauspicious BaZi [spirit-star](/bazi/glossary/shen-sha) signifying sudden misfortune — bloodshed, illness, fire-and-water danger. This site derives it from the **day branch** (year branch also used).

Derivation

Zai Sha takes the position opposing the trine's Emperor (the clash of the trine's central branch): Shen-Zi-Chen sees Wu; Yin-Wu-Xu sees Zi; Si-You-Chou sees Mao; Hai-Mao-Wei sees You. Clashing the trine's strongest point, it signifies a clashing calamity.

Common Misconception

**"Zai Sha means certain disaster."** It is a "guard against" cue, usually manifesting in years a cycle triggers it — no need for daily worry.
