Xuankong Flying Stars — the System and Its Nine Periods

Xuankong Flying Stars is a major school of feng shui that uses the Luoshu nine-palace grid as its frame and "flies" the nine stars through the palaces on the rhythm of the Three Cycles Nine Periods, reading the strength of each palace from the resulting star combinations.

The nine stars and the periods

The nine stars — 1 White Tan Lang through 9 Purple You Bi — take turns governing, one per 20-year period. The governing star of the current period is called the "period star" and its qi is considered the most prosperous. From 2024 to 2043 (Period 9), the Nine Purple You Bi star governs; the previous governor, 8 White Zuo Fu (2004–2023), is in retreat.
