Fu Yin and Fan Yin — Repeated and Reversed Pillars

Fu yin (伏吟) is a pillar that repeats another pillar of the same chart; fan yin (反吟) is a pillar whose stem controls and whose branch clashes another pillar — the "heaven controls, earth clashes" pattern.

How it is computed

The engine reports branch-level fu yin when two pillars share a branch, and stem-and-branch fu yin when the stems match too. Fan yin builds on the same six-clash table, upgraded to stem-and-branch when the stems are also in a controlling relation. Both are computed natally and between the chart and its luck pillars.

Reading

Fu yin suggests repetition, stalling and old matters resurfacing; fan yin suggests reversal and rebuilding. Neither is read as a verdict — what matters is whether the pillar involved carries something the chart favours.
