Period 5 — Five Yellow Center Earth (1944–1963)

Period 5, the Five Yellow Center Earth period, covers 1944–1963, the middle period of the whole 180-year cycle. Uniquely, it has no trigram: the Five Yellow occupies the center palace, and its element is Earth. Tradition reads the center as command over the four directions — concentration of authority and the resetting of order. The period's dates span the end of the Second World War and the formation of the post-war order, which Xuankong writers conventionally cite as the correspondence; the reading is associative, not causal.
