Period 7, the Seven Red Dui Metal period, covers 1984–2003, opening the Lower Cycle. It corresponds to the Dui trigram, the Metal element, the west, and the Po Jun star. Dui is the lake, the mouth and the youngest daughter — speech, entertainment, exchange and trade. Traditional readings link the period to media, entertainment and commerce; like all period readings, this is a conventional retrospective association, not causation.
