Period 2 — Two Black Kun Earth (1884–1903)

Deep Oracle Editorial Team · 2026-07-27 · 2 min read

Period 2, the Two Black Kun Earth period, covers 1884–1903, the second period of the Upper Cycle. It corresponds to the Kun trigram, the Earth element, the southwest, and the Ju Men star. Kun is the earth, the mother, bearing and nourishing; traditional readings link this period to land, agriculture and the life of the common people. As with all period characterizations in the Xuankong tradition, these are tendency observations made after the fact, not causal assertions.
