Basis for the year 181
The Records of the Three Kingdoms identifies Zhuge Liang, courtesy name Kongming, as a man of Yangdu in Langya. It says he died in the army in Jianxing 12, or 234, at traditional age 54. That age implies 181, but the biography gives no birth month or day.
Two later birthday traditions
The Shandong Local Chronicles chronology records two later claims: a Zhuge genealogy gives the fourteenth day of the fourth month, while the Zhaolie Zhongwu Lingmiao Zhi, citing Tanhui, gives the twenty-third day of the seventh month. Neither is selected. The old page also called 181 Jian'an 1; 181 is Guanghe 4, while Jian'an 1 is 196.
Historical and chart limits
The sourced biographical scope here is limited to Zhuge Liang's identity as a Shu Han chancellor and his death in the army in 234.
