BaZi Chart Analysis
Steve Jobs — BaZi Chart Analysis
Steve Jobs (1955–2011) was born in San Francisco and adopted shortly afterward. He co-founded Apple in 1976, became a key figure in the personal computer revolution, was forced out in 1985, then founded NeXT and bought Pixar. In 1997 he returned to Apple as CEO, steering the company through the iPod, iTunes, and iPhone era.
The chart, as computed
The pillars below came out of the engine, not out of a reference table. The Month pillar turns on the 節 (the odd solar terms) rather than on the calendar month, which is why a birth in the first days of a Gregorian month often belongs to the previous 干支 month. The reading was written after the chart, never before it.
| Pillar | 干支 | Romanised | Ten God |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year | 乙未 | Yi Wei | Zheng Yin |
| Month | 戊寅 | Wu Yin | Shi Shen |
| Day | 丙辰 | Bing Chen | Day Master |
| Hour | 戊戌 | Wu Xu | Shi Shen |
Day Master: 丙 (Bing, yang Fire). The engine reads this chart's day master as somewhat strong, in a 偏印格 (Pian Yin) structure — a chart organised around unorthodox, self-supplied resource.
This is one of the minority of profiles here with a recorded birth hour, so all four pillars are computed and the hour column below is real rather than inferred.
What the ten gods put where
- Year stem — 正印 (Zheng Yin): orthodox support — study, mentors, credentials.
- Month stem — 食神 (Shi Shen): the output — expression, craft, ease of production.
- Hour stem — 食神 (Shi Shen): the output — expression, craft, ease of production.
Ten Gods describe relations. The label attaches to a stem only in relation to the Day Master, so nothing in the list above generalises to everyone sharing a Bing day master — it generalises to charts with this configuration, which is a much smaller set.
The branch relations the engine found
- 六冲 · a direct clash — 辰 (Chen) / 戌 (Xu), in the day and hour branches. Opposition between two branches — the classic marker of a position that will not hold still.
- 六破 · a break — 未 (Wei) / 戌 (Xu), in the year and hour branches. A destabilising relation, weaker than a clash.
- 拱会 · an embraced assembly — 寅 (Yin) / 辰 (Chen), in the month and day branches, resolving to Wood. Two branches implying a seasonal block they do not literally complete.
Reading it
A somewhat strong Bing Fire day master in a Pian Yin structure, with Shi Shen on both the month and the hour: unorthodox resource feeding doubled output. What distinguishes this chart is how much of its structure is in tension — a Chen–Xu clash across day and hour, a Wei–Xu break across year and hour, and an embraced Yin–Chen Wood assembly pulling the other way. Three relations, two of them destabilising, in a chart that is otherwise well-supplied. The tradition reads that combination as capability with a built-in discontinuity rather than as capability that runs smoothly.
What this page does not claim
A BaZi chart is a symbolic framework for reading temperament and timing, not an explanation of a life. Everything above describes a configuration; none of it asserts that the configuration caused any documented event, and no reading here works backwards from a known biography to a chart feature that would have predicted it. Public birth records are also imperfect — where the hour is unknown, this page says so rather than assigning one.
This is not a substitute for medical, financial or legal advice.
Work out your own chart
To compare this against your own chart, run it through the BaZi chart calculator — it uses the same solar-term boundaries as the table above. Definitions for anything unfamiliar are in the BaZi glossary, and the celebrity index lists the other charted figures.
Birth data as held on file: 1955-02-24, hour 19. The birth-data source is cited on the Chinese edition of this page.
