月柱桃花 is a technical term in traditional Chinese horoscopy, specifically in the discourse of 子平 and related schools. It refers to the situation in which a 桃花 (also known as 咸池) appears on the 月柱, the month pillar of a bazi chart. In this use, 桃花 denotes a symbolic configuration associated with interpersonal attraction, affective charm, and social visibility. A 月柱桃花 therefore locates that configuration in the month pillar, which traditional commentary treats as a position of outward social expression. These pairings are used to determine whether any pillar contains a 桃花. When the branch identified in this way appears in the month pillar, the result is called 月柱桃花, or more briefly 月桃花. The term 咸池 is used as an alternative name for 桃花. In classical astrological texts, 咸池 originally belongs to the vocabulary of Chinese astrology and was later absorbed into bazi nomenclature. A 桃花 outside the wall is taken to indicate a charm that extends outward into public settings. In the case of 月柱桃花, the month pillar is said to carry this outward quality. Traditional commentary associates the month position with visibility in social, professional, or public contexts.

The distinction is one of placement and expression, not of moral judgment. The phrase 墙外桃花 is sometimes repeated in popular writing with the suggestion of extramarital attraction, but the older technical usage is more limited. It describes the location of the 桃花 branch and the direction in which its qualities are said to be expressed. The month pillar, being one of the four positions, is not in itself a statement about private conduct.

月柱与其他三柱的分工

In the four-pillar framework, each pillar has a conventional range of reference. The year pillar is usually associated with ancestry, early environment, and the broader social background.
