Ten Gods by Pillar Position

In bazi reading, 十神 are not free-floating labels. The same 十神 means different things when it occupies a different pillar. The term 十神柱位 refers to the practice of reading a 十神 through the specific pillar and positional layer in which it appears. A 财星 in the month pillar and a 财星 in the hour pillar are both called 财, but their interpretive range differs. Treating them as identical because they share a name flattens the chart and produces mechanical conclusions. The pillar supplies the context; the 十神 supplies the relational category.
十神与柱位的两层对应
The four pillars each correspond to a layer of life. The year pillar concerns ancestry and the early environment. The month pillar concerns parents, siblings, and the process of growing up. The day branch concerns the spouse. The hour pillar concerns children and later life. These are the standard palace assignments, and they are read together with the 十神 appearing in each pillar.
Because the hour pillar governs the children palace, it carries a precondition: if the birth hour is unknown or unreliable, the chart cannot be used to discuss the children palace. The hour pillar may still be present in a constructed chart, but its palace meaning is not available. This is a limit of the method, not a minor caveat.
The 十神 system maps six relations onto these layers. In bazi, 六亲 refers to four layers: parents, siblings, spouse, and children. 印星 is the mother, 财星 is the father, 比劫 is siblings, and the day branch is the spouse palace. Paternal uncles, maternal uncles, aunts, cousins, and parents-in-law do not occupy a separate palace or 十神 position. They are not assigned their own pillar. When such relations appear in a reading, they are usually read through an existing position by extension, not through a dedicated slot.
由远及近的次序
The pillar order itself expresses distance. Year, month, day, and hour proceed from the distant and early to the near and late. The year pillar stands farthest from the day master in time and in daily relevance. The month pillar is closer and carries more weight because it contains the 月令, the seasonal command that sets the strength of the chart. The day branch is closest to the day master as the spouse palace. The hour pillar is late in time and distant in another sense: it governs what comes after, including children and old age.
This order matters when the same 十神 appears in several pillars. A 十神 in the day branch, month stem, or month branch is usually closer to daily life and to the main axis of the chart than the same 十神 in the year pillar. A 十神 in the year pillar still exists and still counts, but it tends toward background conditions and early life. It is not erased by distance; it is contextualized by it.
同一十神在四柱的四种读法
The same 十神 can appear in any of the four pillars, and each position changes the reading.
A 财星 in the month pillar leans toward social operation and the resource environment. It points to how resources, economic activity, or the father-related layer function within the formative environment and the social field. It is less about late-stage planning and more about the conditions in which the person learns to operate.
A 财星 in the hour pillar leans toward later-stage planning and extended returns. It points to outcomes that mature over time, including income or assets connected to later life, children, or the results of long-term arrangements. This is not the same statement as a month-pillar 财星. The 十神 name is the same, but the pillar changes the subject.
The same distinction applies to other 十神. An 印星 in the month pillar and an 印星 in the hour pillar both touch the mother or resource layer, but one operates in the growth environment and the other in the late-life or children-related layer. The reading must preserve that difference. A phrase such as the chart has 财 in the month and 财 in the hour is only the beginning of the sentence; it is not yet a conclusion.
十神的远近、主次与轻重
When one 十神 appears in multiple pillars, the reading does not proceed by simple addition. Three appearances are not automatically three times as strong as one. The interpreter compares distance, seasonal support, rooting, and clarity.
Distance is judged by how close the 十神 is to the day master, the month command, and the key palaces. A 十神 in the day branch or month stem is usually closer to the daily and structural core. A 十神 in the year pillar is more likely to operate as background or early-life material.
Weight is judged by actual force, not by frequency. A 十神 that is 得令,有根, clearly 透干, and close to the day master or month command is usually heavier. A 十神 that only hides in a residual 藏干, sits far in the year pillar, has been combined away, or is heavily controlled or drained carries less weight. The chart may show the character in several places, but its effective role depends on whether it can act.
The month pillar carries high weight, but even here the reading must separate the month stem, the month branch, and the 月令. The month stem is a visible actor. The month branch contains the seasonal command and hidden stems. The 月令 is the seasonal state itself. These are not interchangeable. A 十神 may be present in the month stem but unsupported by the 月令, or present only in the month branch hidden stem. Each case is read differently.
宫位法只给范畴
The palace method supplies categories, not content. It says that a certain class of matter corresponds to a certain position on the chart. It does not say what will happen to that matter. The year pillar is the ancestry and early-environment palace. That is a category. Whether the early environment was stable, difficult, wealthy, or disordered is a further question requiring the interaction of stems, branches, 十神, strength, and other layers.
The same limit applies to the children palace. The hour pillar is the children palace. That tells the reader where to look when discussing children. It does not by itself predict the number, health, or success of children. If the hour pillar is unreliable, the category cannot be used at all.
The 比劫 example clarifies the difference between correspondence and identity. The statement 比劫为兄弟 means that 比劫 corresponds to siblings. It does not mean that 比劫 equals siblings in a literal one-to-one sense. In the chart of an only child, 比劫 still appear. They do not vanish because there is no sibling. Instead, they shift their reference to same-generation relations such as cousins, classmates, colleagues, or business partners. The 十神 category remains; the concrete referent changes according to life circumstances.
十神柱位
The hour-pillar 比肩 page in a structured reference shows how far the pillar reading can be broken down. It separates the hour pillar into field-level items: the hour stem 十神, the hidden-stem 十神 in the hour branch, the day master’s twelve-stage condition in the hour branch, the 纳音, and any 空亡 marker. These are listed side by side rather than merged into a single blended sentence.
The page also states a negative limit: an hour-stem 比肩 does not by itself point to children, later life, career, wealth, or personality. It is one positional item. It may enter those topics only in combination with the palace, season, rooting, and other chart factors. The pillar method restrains the conclusion until the positional evidence is complete.
