Zodiac Trinities: Four Combinations and Their Elements

The 生肖三合, or Three Harmonies of the Chinese zodiac, is a pattern that groups the twelve zodiac animals into four sets of three. It is one of the standard ways of reading affinity and resonance within the zodiac, but its substance is not limited to animal symbolism. Behind the familiar animal names lies the older framework of the 地支, the twelve earthly branches. In practice, 生肖三合 is best understood as a zodiac-level expression of the 地支三合 rules.

四组三合生肖

The Three Harmonies form four fixed groups. In 地支 terms, these are 申子辰合水局,亥卯未合木局,寅午戌合火局, and 巳酉丑合金局. When the same groups are expressed through the zodiac animals, they become four sets: Monkey, Rat, and Dragon; Pig, Rabbit, and Sheep; Tiger, Horse, and Dog; Snake, Rooster, and Ox.

Each group is tied to one of the five phases. The Monkey-Rat-Dragon group corresponds to Water. The Pig-Rabbit-Sheep group corresponds to Wood. The Tiger-Horse-Dog group corresponds to Fire. The Snake-Rooster-Ox group corresponds to Metal. These are not loose thematic associations. The grouping follows the internal structure of the 地支, in which each branch carries a specific phase and seasonal position.

它就是地支三合换了个说法

生肖三合 and 地支三合 are the same rule given two different vocabularies. The zodiac animal is simply another name for the corresponding 地支. 子 corresponds to Rat, 丑 to Ox, and so on through the twelve. Therefore, the three-harmony relation among animals is not a separate system invented for the zodiac. It is the 地支三合 relation restated in animal terms.

This equivalence matters when the rule is applied beyond the year branch. Although the word 生肖 most often points to the year of birth, the underlying branches appear in all positions of a chart. A person born in a Monkey year is, in branch terms, a person with 申 in the year position. When that same branch appears elsewhere, its harmony relations remain the same. The animal label does not change the rule; it only changes the presentation.

中间那一支的位置

In each three-harmony group, the middle branch holds a special position. It is the place where the phase of the group reaches 帝旺, its most flourishing state. In 申子辰,子 is the 帝旺 of Water. In 亥卯未,卯 is the 帝旺 of Wood. In 寅午戌,午 is the 帝旺 of Fire. In 巳酉丑,酉 is the 帝旺 of Metal.

Expressed in zodiac terms, this means Rat is the central branch of the Monkey-Rat-Dragon Water group; Rabbit is the central branch of the Pig-Rabbit-Sheep Wood group; Horse is the central branch of the Tiger-Horse-Dog Fire group; and Rooster is the central branch of the Snake-Rooster-Ox Metal group. The other two branches in each set occupy the growth and storage positions of the same phase. The middle branch is thus not merely the second animal in a list. It is the point where the phase is at full strength, and the group is oriented around it.

只见两支时叫什么

When all three branches of a group are present, the three-harmony formation is complete, and the force of the corresponding phase is gathered. This is called a full 三合局. When only two of the three branches appear and one is missing, the formation is incomplete. The standard term for this condition is 半合, a half combination. A half combination still indicates a connection between the two present branches, but its force is weaker than that of the full three-branch configuration.

The distinction between full and half combination is practical rather than merely technical. A full 三合局 concentrates the phase in question. A 半合 suggests an incomplete gathering: the affinity is present, but the phase lacks the third branch that would bring it to completion. The missing branch may appear elsewhere in time, such as in a later luck period or an annual cycle, but within the chart itself the relation remains partial.

生肖只是年支一个字

The zodiac animal refers to one branch only: the branch of the year. A full 八字 chart contains eight characters, and the year branch is just one of them. When two people are said to have a 生肖三合 relation, this means their year branches belong to the same three-harmony group. It does not mean that the other seven characters in their respective charts share any particular relation.

For example, a Monkey-year person and a Rat-year person have year branches 申 and 子, which are two members of the Water group. That is a genuine three-harmony connection at the level of the year branch. But the month, day, and hour branches of each person remain independent. Their other characters may be harmonious, neutral, or conflicting. The phrase 生肖三合 therefore describes a single point of contact between two charts, not a summary of the whole relationship.

The site engine follows this distinction in its treatment of 三合. The three-harmony determination is based on the 地支 relations in the chart. The zodiac label is used for readability, but the calculation operates on the branches themselves. When the engine records a 三合 relation, it is recording a branch-level configuration, regardless of whether the user sees it described through animals or through the 地支.

The engine also applies a further condition before marking a combination as fully transformed. The three-harmony group is associated with one of the five phases. The engine treats the combination as 化气 only when the month command agrees with the phase of the group. If the month command does not match the phase, the engine records the 三合 relation but does not mark it as 合化. In other words, the structural relation may exist even when the transformative condition is not met. The entry therefore distinguishes between the presence of a three-harmony relation and the completed transformation of that relation into its associated phase.
