How to Choose Among Three BaZi Report Types

This site offers three paid report formats: a life-depth report based on the natal chart itself, an annual report for a specified single year, and a compatibility report based on the relationship between two charts. Each answers a different kind of question, and choosing among them depends more on what you are trying to understand than on any difference in cost.

The three formats are not interchangeable. One examines the natal chart as a whole. Another narrows the focus to one selected year. The third compares two charts. Because they consume the same report credit, the practical decision is not about price but about the shape of the question: whether you are asking about long-term disposition, about a particular calendar year, or about the dynamic between two people.

命盘本身：人生深度报告

The life-depth report unfolds in seven chapters and takes the natal chart itself as its object of interpretation. Its concern is not a specific year but the structure of the chart: the recurring patterns, strengths, pressures, and tendencies that are understood to accompany the chart over time. When the question is about temperament, career direction, recurring relational patterns, or broad life themes, this is the format that addresses the chart at the level where those questions tend to live.

Because the report is organized around the chart rather than around a calendar, it does not attempt to isolate events in a given year. Instead, it reads the chart as a whole, chapter by chapter, so that the relationships among different parts of the chart can be seen together. For a first serious reading of a chart, or for a question that begins with the phrase “in general” or “over the long term,” the life-depth report is usually the more fitting choice.

The annual report is tied to a single year that you select. It begins with an overview of that year and then moves through the twelve months, following the solar terms as the dividing points between months rather than the Western calendar. Each month is analyzed in turn, so the report gives a month-by-month reading of the year as a whole.

This format is closer to the time scale of practical planning. If the question concerns a particular year—whether it is a year for changing jobs, for marrying, for moving, or for managing a difficult period—the annual report arranges the reading around that year’s cycle. It is not a substitute for the life-depth report, because it does not give the same extended treatment to the natal chart as a whole. Instead, it assumes the chart and moves directly to the rhythm of one selected year.

The month-by-month structure is one of the main reasons to choose this format. When the question is about timing within a year, the annual report tends to offer a more granular view than the life-depth report can provide.

两个人之间：合盘报告

The compatibility report is based on two natal charts and is also organized into seven chapters. It currently supports three relationship types: romantic, parent-child, and business partnership. The reading is not about either chart alone but about what happens between them—how the two charts interact, where they reinforce each other, and where friction tends to appear.

This format is appropriate when the question is explicitly relational. If you are trying to understand a couple’s dynamic, a parent-child pattern, or a working relationship, the compatibility report gives a structured way to read the two charts together. It is not a substitute for reading either person’s chart individually, but it addresses a different layer: the space between two people, which neither single-chart report can fully capture.

Because the report currently supports only the three named relationship types, it is best used when the relationship fits one of those categories clearly. Ambiguous or mixed relationships may still be readable, but the chapter structure is built around those three forms.

The most cost-effective first step is not to buy a report at all. Before choosing any of the three formats, use the free chart-drawing tool to confirm that the four pillars are correct. If the birth data is wrong, the chart is wrong, and every report built on it will be reading the wrong structure. Checking the four pillars first costs nothing and prevents the most common source of error.

Once the chart is confirmed, the choice depends on the question. If the question is about long-term tendencies and has no strong tie to a single year, the life-depth report is usually the better starting point. If the question is about a specific year and its monthly rhythm, the annual report is the more direct match. If the question is about two people, neither single-chart report will do; the compatibility report is the appropriate format.

There is no universal rule that one report type is the best first purchase for everyone. The sequence should follow the question. A person who already knows the broad outlines of their chart and is concerned with the coming year may reasonably start with the annual report. A person who has never read their chart in depth and wants a structured overview may be better served by the life-depth report first. A person whose main concern is a relationship should begin with the compatibility report rather than with either single-chart format.

三种都不合适的情况

There are also cases where none of the three formats fits. The reports are readings of charts, and a chart is not a substitute for direct communication or for judgments that must be made in the moment. Matters that require the other person to be present and speaking for themselves, or matters that depend on immediate circumstances and on-the-ground judgment, are not the kind of thing a chart report can address.

For example, a question that depends on what another person is willing to do, or on a situation that changes hour by hour, lies outside what a natal chart reading can support. The chart can describe tendencies and patterns, but it cannot stand in for a conversation or for a decision that must be made face to face. In such cases, buying a report is not the right step, and the honest answer is that the tool does not match the task.

The three formats cover a wide range of interpretive needs, but their coverage is not unlimited. They work best when the question is stable enough to be read through the chart—whether that chart is one person’s, one year’s, or two people’s. When the question requires a live exchange or a real-time judgment, none of the three report types is the appropriate instrument.
