Year Range Supported by Charting Tools

Every 排盘 tool operates within a defined range of years. The tool does not simply place a birth date onto a calendar; it reconstructs the moment of a solar-term transition that governs the month pillar, and then derives the remaining pillars from that moment. To do this, it must consult a dataset or an algorithm that covers the relevant period. Where that underlying data ends, the tool’s usable range ends. A form may accept a date and appear to produce a chart, but the chart is meaningful only if the date falls inside the range the tool was built to support.

排盘 depends on the calculation of solar-term boundary moments, and every calculation of that kind relies on a source that has its own coverage interval. The source may be an astronomical ephemeris, a series of published almanac data, or an approximation formula fitted to a particular span. A tool that is strong for the twentieth century may not be designed for the late nineteenth century. A tool oriented toward contemporary users may stop at 2050 or 2060. The range is not arbitrary, but it is also not identical across tools.

It may say that the accepted birth-date range is from a certain year to a certain year. Before entering the date, check that note. If the stated lower bound is 1900 and the relative was born in 1896, the tool is being asked to work outside its declared range. The 干支 output looks complete: four pillars, ten gods, nayin, and perhaps a luck cycle. But if the solar-term data for that year was not actually available, the month pillar may be built on an assumed or extrapolated time. The day pillar may be correct as a sexagenary count, while the month pillar is not. The chart then mixes a valid day count with an unsupported month boundary. That mixture is not obvious from the printed result. This is why the first question is not whether a result appears, but whether the date is inside the declared range.

For older relatives, the lower bound should be checked before any interpretation is ordered or any reading is trusted. The user should look for the range in the form prompt or the help page. A chart for 1895-02-03 is not a usable substitute for 1895-02-04. If the tool cannot handle the actual date, the honest options are to find another tool with a wider lower bound, or to consult a printed almanac or reference table that covers that year. Substituting a nearby date creates a chart for a different person.

In earlier periods, the recorded date may follow a different convention, may be based on a local calendar, or may simply be wrong. The earlier the year, the larger this problem tends to be.
