BaZi Compatibility: Comparing Two Birth Charts

合八字 is the common folk term for the bazi marriage-compatibility step, in which the birth year, month, day, and hour of two people are each arranged into four pillars, and the gan-zhi relations between the two charts are then compared. It is one part of a larger traditional engagement process, and its purpose is narrower than popular usage often suggests: it describes structural relations between two natal charts, not a verdict on whether two people should marry.

合八字与合婚是不是同一件事

In ordinary usage, 合八字 and 合婚 are often treated as the same thing. More precisely, 合八字 is the popular name for the compatibility assessment step within 合婚. The procedure takes the birth data of both people, converts each person’s year, month, day, and hour into the corresponding four pillars, and then compares the resulting gan-zhi relationships across the two charts. 合婚 is the broader act of evaluating a proposed marriage through such methods, while 合八字 refers to the concrete operation of laying out and comparing the two sets of pillars.

传统上合的是哪几层

Traditional marriage matching is usually said to examine three layers. The first and most important layer is the day pillar. The day stem represents the person; the day branch is the spouse palace. Relations involving the day pillar therefore carry the most weight in assessing how two people stand toward each other.

The second layer concerns the direction of the useful god, or yongshen, in each chart. The question here is whether the two charts’ yongshen orientations supplement each other. This is a structural question about the five-element needs indicated by each chart, not a statement about personal character or emotional compatibility in the modern sense.

The third layer is the relation between the year branches, commonly understood through the zodiac animals and their combinations and clashes. This layer is traditionally the least weighted of the three, but it is by far the most widely circulated in popular culture. Folk statements about which zodiac signs match or clash tend to be remembered precisely because they are simple, even though they form only a minor part of the traditional procedure.

引擎能算出来的部分

This site provides a combined chart layout for two people. It outputs the four pillars of both charts, the ten gods, and the five-element complementarity relations between them. It does not produce a conclusion about whether the two people are suitable for each other.

The computed output includes several specific items. It shows the ten-god and five-element relations as seen from each person’s day master toward the other person. It identifies whether the two day branches are the same branch, a self-punishment, a six-clash, a six-combination, a six-harm, or a six-break. It lists clash, combination, punishment, and harm relations among branches across the two charts. It lists combination and overcoming relations among heavenly stems across the two charts. It includes one yongshen complementarity judgment. It also shows which symbolic stars, or shensha, are shared by both charts and which are unique to each chart.

The result is a structural comparison. It states what kinds of gan-zhi relations exist between two fixed sets of pillars. It does not infer from those relations that a marriage will succeed or fail, that the two people will be happy or unhappy together, or that any particular event will occur.

这一步之后仍然没有答案的部分

A compatibility reading describes the structural relation between two static charts. It gives tendencies, not events. The presence of a clash does not mean that a separation will happen; the absence of a clash does not mean that a union will be stable. The calculation can say that a certain branch relation exists between the two spouse palaces, but it cannot say how that relation will manifest in the lives of the people involved.

Several factors are outside the scope of this step. The method does not determine whether the two people should proceed with a marriage. It does not establish whether the relationship is morally, emotionally, or practically suitable. It does not account for changes in circumstances, choices made by the individuals, or interventions that may alter the expression of a chart tendency. The engine provides a comparison of natal structures; it does not provide a decision.

把合八字放回婚嫁流程里

In the traditional engagement sequence, 合八字 is only one stage. It follows the initial discussions between families and precedes the formal engagement. Its function is to examine whether the two charts show structural friction or structural support, and to bring that information to the family’s deliberation. The result is then weighed alongside other considerations: family background, health, reputation, economic circumstances, and the wishes of the two people themselves.

Because 合八字 sits inside a larger decision process, its output should be read as one form of input among several. It is not a standalone oracle. In the original social context, the person performing the reading was expected to give a measured assessment, and the families retained the authority to decide. The step was not designed to override all other forms of judgment.

合八字之后仍然没有答案的问题

Using a compatibility conclusion to persuade people to separate or to stay together is one of the most practically harmful ways this practice can be applied. Statements such as “day branches clashing means the match is unsuitable” have no reviewable derivation and no comparable records. They cannot be reconstructed step by step from the chart relations to the claimed outcome, and there is no body of verifiable evidence linking specific day-branch combinations to actual marital results.

Even after a full 合八字 reading, several questions remain unanswered. The method does not answer whether the two people should marry. It does not answer whether their marriage, if entered, will last. It does not answer whether either person will be faithful, kind, or responsible. It does not answer how the relationship will develop under pressure, illness, financial strain, or the arrival of children. It does not answer whether the marriage is lawful, consensual, or desirable by the standards of the people involved.

The value of the step is limited to what it can actually do: show the gan-zhi relations between two charts and describe the structural tendencies those relations imply. Anything beyond that is not part of the method, and claims that exceed this boundary should be treated as opinion rather than as a technical result of 合八字.
