Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches Lookup

In 天干地支查询 (ganzhi inquiry), a single 干支 pair is treated as a fixed unit of reference. When a user looks up a pair such as 甲子 or 丙寅, the system can return a defined set of tabulated attributes. These attributes are read directly from reference tables, not derived from the surrounding chart. This entry explains what can and cannot be obtained from such a lookup, and how the same pair behaves when it appears in different positions of a chart.

查一组干支能得到的固定项

Given one 干支 pair, the items that can be obtained directly from tables form a fixed set. They are:

  • the Five Phases property of the Heavenly Stem
  • the yin-yang property of the Heavenly Stem
  • the Five Phases property of the Earthly Branch
  • the yin-yang property of the Earthly Branch
  • the root qi, middle qi, and residual qi hidden in the Earthly Branch
  • the nayin of the pair
  • the twelve longevity stages of the Heavenly Stem at that Earthly Branch

These are all lookup items. No judgment is involved in producing them. The answers do not depend on whose chart the pair appears in. Whether the same 干支 appears in one person’s chart or another person’s chart, these particular values remain identical.

For example, for 甲子, the tabulated result will state that 甲 is yang Wood, 子 is yang Water, 子 contains 癸 as its main hidden stem, and the pair belongs to a specific nayin category. The twelve longevity stage of 甲 at 子 is also fixed. None of this changes from chart to chart.

The hidden stems are given as 本气,中气, and 余气. Not every Earthly Branch contains all three. Some branches contain only one hidden stem; others contain two or three. The lookup returns whichever of the three positions are present for that branch. This is still a fixed tabulated result, not an interpretive conclusion.

The nayin is likewise fixed. Each nayin name covers two adjacent 干支 pairs. Across the full sexagenary cycle, the sixty pairs are grouped into thirty nayin names. The system output includes nayin as a reference item only.

哪些项是查表,哪些项是判断

The distinction in this system is strict. The items listed above are all 查表 items. They are obtained by matching the pair against a reference table. No weighing of the whole chart is involved.

Items that require judgment are a separate category. They cannot be derived from a single 干支 pair alone. These include:

  • whether a given Five Phases element is strong or weak in the chart
  • whether a particular relation holds
  • how to choose or discard among possible readings

These judgments depend on the whole chart. A single pair may suggest a certain tendency, but it cannot determine the balance of elements across the entire chart. The same 干支 pair may appear in two different charts, and the element balance or relational outcome may differ because the surrounding pillars differ.

For this reason, a lookup result for one 干支 pair should not be treated as a conclusion about the person’s chart. It provides fixed reference values. It does not provide the kind of assessment that requires comparing all four pillars, the stems and branches together, and the interactions among them.

同一组干支在四个柱位上不同

A given 干支 pair keeps the same tabulated values no matter which pillar it occupies. The Five Phases, yin-yang, hidden stems, nayin, and twelve longevity stage do not change when the pair is written as the year pillar, month pillar, day pillar, or hour pillar.

What changes is the human affairs domain indicated by the pillar. The four positions carry different referents:

  • the year pillar governs ancestry and early life
  • the month pillar governs parents and the monthly order
  • the day pillar governs the self and the spouse
  • the hour pillar governs children and later life

Thus 甲子 as the year pillar and 甲子 as the day pillar share the same tabulated attributes, but they point to different areas of life. The lookup returns the same fixed data in both cases. The interpretive range, however, is assigned according to the pillar position.

This distinction matters when a user asks about a specific pair in a specific chart. The system can state the fixed attributes of 甲子, but the significance of those attributes in the year position differs from their significance in the day position. The lookup itself does not perform that interpretive shift; it only supplies the fixed values.

查到之后接下来看的是什么

After the fixed lookup values are obtained, the next step is to place them into the chart and examine what follows from the whole configuration. This is where judgment begins.

The twelve longevity stages are tabulated, but they follow a structural rule. Yang stems move forward through the stages, while yin stems move backward. The full set is 120 positions. This site uses the system in which Fire and Earth share the same longevity stages. Under this system, 丙 and 戊 have their 长生 at 寅, and 丁 and 己 have their 长生 at 酉. These placements are fixed and can be looked up directly.

The nayin is also fixed, but it is not treated as a primary factor in this site’s output. The chart output includes nayin only as a supplementary reference. It is not used as a basis for further judgment in the system’s main presentation.

One category of information cannot be obtained by lookup at all. When the birth time is unknown, the hour pillar cannot be determined. In that case, any judgment connected to the hour pillar is missing. The system does not attempt to fill in the hour pillar by guesswork. The absence is noted, and the related assessments are simply not available.

In summary, a 天干地支查询 returns fixed reference values for a given pair. These values are reliable as table entries. They do not change across charts. Once they are known, the user can proceed to look at the whole chart, but the lookup itself stops at the boundary of what can be read from the tables. Judgment about the chart as a whole belongs to a later stage and requires all available pillars.
