Wealth-Related Symbolic Stars in Traditional Chinese Astrology

The term 财运神煞 refers to a family of spirit-figure markers used in traditional Chinese metaphysics to discuss wealth accumulation and wealth-pattern imagery. Entries in this family each treat one spirit figure and its older interpretive imagery as applied to wealth, following a common format while differing in the specific imagery assigned. The material below outlines the general use of these markers in relation to wealth, their limits, and the caution required when reading them.
财运一面被引用的几组神煞
Several spirit figures are routinely cited on the wealth side of traditional readings. The most commonly mentioned are 驿马,空亡, and 禄神. Each carries a distinct older imagery.
驿马 is associated with movement. In older interpretation, it is linked to situations involving distant or cross-regional business and frequent coming and going. The imagery is one of mobility rather than one of income size. A chart may show 驿马 without saying anything about whether earnings are large or small.
空亡 is derived from the ten-day sexagenary cycle. For any day pillar, the two branches left over in its ten-day set are the void branches. When 空亡 falls on a position related to wealth, older reading treats it as empty or insubstantial. This is an interpretive image from the old literature, not a conclusion about actual financial outcomes.
禄神 is the robust position of the day stem. Traditional reading associates it with stable salary or stipend-like income. Its imagery differs from that of irregular or unconventional income, such as that indicated by 偏财 imagery. 禄神 points toward regular provision rather than windfall.
流动、储存与虚实三种取象
The wealth-related imagery of these figures can be grouped under three broad pictures: movement, storage, and emptiness.
驿马 belongs to the movement picture. Its older use concerns the flow of activity: travel, transfer, frequent contact between places, and business conducted away from one’s base. The emphasis is on activity in space, not on the amount of wealth. A person may move constantly and earn modestly, or move constantly and earn heavily; 驿马 alone does not distinguish these cases.
禄神 belongs to the storage or provision picture. Its old association is with a regular source of support, such as salary or official stipend. The image is one of dependable supply rather than sudden gain. This makes it a marker of a certain income pattern, not a measure of wealth level.
空亡 belongs to the emptiness picture. When it touches a wealth-related position, the old reading says the matter is hollow or unreal. This could mean that a plan looks substantial on paper but does not materialize, or that a position appears relevant but carries little weight in practice. The old literature reads this as an image, not as a verdict on the person’s life.
神煞与财星不在同一层
Spirit figures and the ten-god category of wealth are not on the same analytical level. The wealth star describes the relationship between the day master and the object of wealth. It says something about the kind of resource the person is oriented toward, and about the structural relation between self and resource.
A spirit figure, by contrast, is a marker produced by table lookup. It is read from positions such as the year, month, day, or hour pillar, or from interactions among stems and branches. It does not describe the day master’s relation to wealth in the same way that a wealth star does. The two cannot be substituted for each other.
A chart may show a wealth star and also show one of these spirit figures in a wealth-related position. The wealth star speaks to the relational layer; the spirit figure speaks to an added imagery layer. Mixing the two as if they were equivalent categories produces confusion. The older literature keeps them distinct, and so should any modern presentation of the material.
神煞与财星不在同一层
The same distinction applies when comparing spirit figures with spending behavior. Spending habits are behavioral data. They can be observed through bank records, bookkeeping, transaction logs, or account statements. They are not inferred from the presence or absence of a star.
If a person spends heavily, that is a fact about behavior. If a chart shows no particular wealth-related spirit figure, that absence does not overturn the observed spending record. Conversely, if a chart shows a spirit figure with an image of movement or emptiness, that does not by itself establish how the person actually spends.
The older use of spirit figures was not designed to reconstruct consumption patterns. It supplied imagery for reading tendencies and themes. Modern readers should not treat these markers as if they were empirical variables in a financial model.

The example charts in this family of entries are illustrative. They are included to show how a reading might be assembled from certain positions and markers. They are not verification records.
Such examples can be useful as demonstrations of method. They show where a spirit figure sits, what neighboring factors are present, and how an older reading might phrase the resulting imagery. They are not evidence that the reading was correct, that the person experienced the predicted pattern, or that the method has been tested against outcomes.
For this reason, example charts in this family should be used only as reading demonstrations. They should not be cited as proof of a technique’s validity, nor as evidence that a particular spirit figure reliably produces a particular result.
这一层给不出金额
Spirit figures in this family cannot yield monetary amounts. Their imagery operates at the level of tendency, movement, provision, or emptiness. It does not quantify income, savings, profit, or loss.
A reading may say that 驿马 suggests frequent movement in connection with livelihood. It cannot say how much is earned from that movement. A reading may say that 空亡 on a wealth position carries an image of insubstantiality. It cannot say how large the shortfall is. A reading may say that 禄神 suggests stable provision. It cannot say the size of the salary.
Any attempt to derive a figure from these markers goes beyond the old material. The traditional texts supply images, not amounts. Modern presentations should keep that boundary clear.
Spirit figures are auxiliary references in chart reading. They cannot serve alone as the basis for judgment. A favorable spirit figure is helpful only when the chart can use it. If the chart structure does not support the figure, the favorable image may remain latent or decorative. An unfavorable spirit figure, if controlled or transformed by other factors in the chart, need not manifest as harm. The old method treats these markers as conditional, not as fixed outcomes. They operate within a larger structure and must be read in context.
