How to Tell if You Should Pursue or Wait in BaZi

Whether a person is more inclined to pursue actively or to wait is a question that appears simple in everyday language but quickly becomes difficult when forced into the framework of BaZi. The main difficulty is not that the charts contain no relevant signals, but that the signals are structural tendencies rather than instructions for action. A BaZi chart describes a configuration: how certain drives are distributed, which relational themes are more prominent, and where a person’s habitual movement is more expressive or more restrained. It does not describe a moment-by-moment decision procedure. For that reason, the question of active pursuit versus waiting can only be addressed indirectly, and the answer should remain deliberately modest.
这个问题里,命理能占的比重很小
The question of whether to pursue or to wait is only partly a question of chart structure. It is also shaped by social context, personal history, emotional capacity, and the particular relationship involved. BaZi can indicate a general leaning: some configurations lean toward outward expression and initiative, while others lean toward caution, delay, or receptivity. But a leaning is not a rule. The same chart can produce very different behaviours depending on life stage, environment, and the feedback a person has received. When the question is framed as a practical decision, the proportion that BaZi can rigorously address is small. It may reveal why someone tends to act in a certain way, but it cannot tell someone what to do in a specific situation.
食伤与官杀:表达与约束的两种偏向
The most relevant distinction for this question is between the orientations represented by 食伤 and 官杀. 食伤 governs expression and output. It is associated with the movement from inside to outside: speaking, showing, performing, initiating, and making one’s position known. When 食伤 is strong and well placed in a chart, the person is more likely to experience pursuit as natural. Initiative feels closer to the person’s default mode, and waiting may feel like suppression.
官杀 governs restraint and regulation. It is associated with limits, standards, external authority, and the sense that one must meet conditions before acting. When 官杀 is prominent, the person may feel that pursuing openly is presumptuous or risky. The default movement may be to observe, assess, and wait until the situation appears sufficiently stable. This is not necessarily passivity; it can be a form of disciplined withholding.
These are not absolute categories. A chart may contain both strong 食伤 and strong 官杀, producing a person who feels a strong urge to express but also a strong internal censor. In such cases, the outward behaviour may alternate between pursuit and hesitation, or may take indirect forms such as testing, hinting, or pursuing through structured channels. The chart does not decide which side wins; it describes the tension.
配偶星的可见度说明的是什么
In traditional usage, the spouse star differs by gender of the chart. For a male chart, the wealth star is taken as the spouse star. For a female chart, the officer star is taken as the spouse star. This distinction matters here because the spouse star is often the first place people look when asking about romantic initiative.
The visibility of the spouse star — whether it appears in the heavenly stems, whether it is rooted in the branches, whether it occupies a prominent position — says something about the visibility and stability of that type of connection in a person’s life. If the spouse star is transparent in the stems, the theme of partnership may be more publicly present or more easily recognised by the person. If it is hidden or weakly rooted, the theme may be less consistently visible, or may emerge only under certain conditions.
But this does not mean that the spouse star appearing in the stems means the person will pursue, nor that a hidden spouse star means the person must wait. It does not even mean that a relationship will appear in a specific month or year. The spouse star describes a relational category, not a scheduled event. Its prominence indicates how strongly the theme of partnership is built into the configuration, not when a specific person will arrive or what that person will want.
不要把倾向当作许可或禁止
A common misuse of BaZi is to take a structural tendency and turn it into a behavioural rule. For example, a chart with strong 食伤 might be read as: this person should pursue, and waiting would be wrong. Or a chart with strong 官杀 might be read as: this person should wait, and pursuing would be improper. Both readings exceed what the chart can support.
A tendency is not a permission. It does not tell a person that a given action is appropriate in a given relationship. People with strong 食伤 can pursue in ways that are unwelcome or poorly timed. People with strong 官杀 can wait so long that the opportunity dissolves. The chart may explain why a behaviour feels natural or unnatural, but it cannot license the behaviour.
Nor is a tendency a prohibition. A person with a restrained configuration is not forbidden from initiating. A person with an expressive configuration is not required to act first. BaZi does not function as a moral or practical rulebook for conduct. It describes the material a person is working with, not the correct use of that material in every situation.

There are several things this page cannot provide. It cannot identify the intentions of a spouse or prospective partner. It cannot assess the quality of a relationship. It cannot say whether a particular person is interested, indifferent, or waiting themselves. The engine does not output spouse identity, spouse willingness, or relationship quality. Those are matters of lived interaction, not of chart configuration.
BaZi also cannot convert its structural descriptions into predictions of specific events. A chart may show that a person tends toward expression or toward restraint, but it does not show that on a certain date the person will confess feelings, or that in a certain month someone will approach them. The chart is a configuration, not a timetable. The distinction matters because the question of active pursuit versus waiting is usually asked in relation to a concrete situation: should I say something now, or should I hold back? That is an event-level question, and it sits outside what the chart can resolve.
For the same reason, this page does not predict specific outcomes and does not constitute decision advice. The information here is descriptive. It can support self-understanding by clarifying why a person may lean one way or another, but it should not be used as the sole basis for acting or refraining from acting in a relationship.
In the end, the chart can describe a leaning. It can show whether the internal pressure toward expression is stronger, or whether the internal pressure toward restraint is stronger. It can show whether the theme of partnership is prominently placed or more submerged. But the movement from leaning to decision is not written in the chart. That movement belongs to the person, in the specific situation, with its own history and its own risks. BaZi may help a person see the shape of their own tendency; it will not tell them what to do with it.
