BaZi on Salary Raise and Negotiation: Officer and Seal

In 八字 practice, questions about salary increases and negotiation often arrive as practical concerns, but the method itself works with categories of relationship rather than direct financial or career outcomes. The discussion below explains why these questions need to be reframed before the chart can be read usefully.

谈判类问题为什么难以从盘上直接回答

A question such as “When should I negotiate a raise?” is not directly answerable from a bazi chart. The chart describes relational structures involving the Day Master and various stars, but it does not contain inputs such as company policy, market salary data, the negotiating counterpart, or the specific terms on the table. Negotiation depends heavily on these external conditions. What the chart can show is the general texture of a period: whether the relationships involving wealth, authority, or expression are relatively stable or unstable, and whether the person tends to move through that period with more restraint or more friction. That is different from saying a particular month or year is good for asking for a raise.

报酬结构的几种取舍

When the question shifts from “salary increase” to “how should I structure my compensation,” the chart is even less decisive. The choice between equity and cash is first a valuation question. It involves asset price, expected future cash flow, discount rate, liquidity, vesting terms, and tax treatment. None of these are inputs in the bazi method. A chart cannot compare the present value of stock options against a cash bonus.

There is also a common misuse of the wealth stars. 正财 and 偏财 are two labels for wealth-related relations, but they do not map onto equity and cash. 正财 tends toward the predictable, stable, and regular; 偏财 tends toward the non-routine, volatile, and opportunistic. Equity is not automatically 偏财, and cash is not automatically 正财. A salary paid monthly fits the 正财 description in most readings, but a one-time cash bonus may be read as 偏财. Conversely, restricted stock that vests on a fixed schedule may have a strong 正财-like quality, while speculative equity in an early-stage company may look more 偏财-like. The classification depends on the structure of the income, not on the asset class alone.

A further distinction matters here: tolerance for volatility is not the same as tolerance for loss. When a chart is said to have structural capacity to bear wealth-star relationships, that refers to stability in the face of a certain type of relational pressure. It does not translate into an ability to absorb financial losses in reality. A person may be structurally comfortable with irregular income and still lose money on a bad equity grant. The chart does not speak to that outcome.

职级评审与薪资谈判的节奏不同

Salary negotiation and formal rank review do not follow the same rhythm in the chart. Promotion and rank-related questions correspond mainly to the 官星 and 印星. The 官星 governs position and organizational standards; the 印星 governs shelter, credentials, and accumulated standing. When these two support each other, the pattern is called 官印相生. That is a structural statement about the relationship between authority and qualification in the chart. It does not indicate that a promotion will occur in a specific year.

Rank review has its own internal structure. Although a professional title is not an administrative post, it is still an organized form of qualification, so it falls within the scope of the 官星. Work years, educational background, continuing education, and representative work relate to the content governed by the 印星. The different stages of a review also correspond to different functions. The 印星 governs absorption and accumulation: completing continuing education hours, organizing project materials, and summarizing results. The 食伤 govern expression and output: writing, presentation, and defense. A period with 食伤 activity may be more suited to the writing and oral defense stage, while a period with 印星 activity may be more suited to gathering and organizing materials. But the outcome of the review depends on the actual materials, the number of available places, and the review rules. Those are not in the chart. Even in a period that shows 官印相生, if the review conditions are not checked and the materials are not prepared, there is no result.

提问时需要交代的现实条件

Because the chart does not contain institutional facts, a useful reading depends on the person stating the real conditions clearly. For a rank review, the relevant facts include current title, years in grade, whether continuing education requirements are met, whether representative work has been published or accepted, and how many places are open in the current cycle. For a salary question, the relevant facts include whether the person is asking for a base salary adjustment, a bonus, an equity grant, or a title change with a pay band change. It also matters whether the negotiation is internal or external, whether there is a competing offer, and whether the company has a fixed compensation review calendar.

Without these conditions, the reader can only describe the general type of period. With them, the reading can at least check whether the relational emphasis in the chart aligns with the kind of action being considered. For example, a period heavy in 官杀 may be read as a time of rule pressure, examination pressure, or added responsibility. It does not directly mean power or promotion. If the person is facing an internal review with strict rules, that may fit. If the person expects an automatic title increase, the chart alone cannot support that reading.

不作承诺的理由

Statements such as “having a career star means you will be promoted” turn a technical term into a real-world result. That step is not supported by the method. A more stable handling is to replace “definitely will” with “needs to be checked” and “should not be concluded in isolation.” The chart shows structural tendencies. It does not show decisions made by a review committee or a manager.

The same caution applies to 官杀. 官杀 may appear as rule pressure, examination pressure, or responsibility. It is not automatically authority. When judging a chart, the reader should state the charting standard used, distinguish the natal chart from the time layer, and write the real-world conditions into the reading. If the question is about a salary negotiation in a specific month, the reader should say what the chart can and cannot address: the chart can describe the general relational tone, but the negotiation itself depends on leverage, market information, and the other party’s constraints. None of those are visible in the 干支.
