Partnership in BaZi: Bi Jie as Support or Rivalry

In bazi analysis, partnership questions are usually framed through a specific set of technical relationships rather than through broad character judgments. The purpose of a partnership reading is to identify the structural tendencies between two people as they may appear in shared resources, decision-making, and role overlap. The article uses the term 八字看合作关系 to refer to this practice: comparing two full Four Pillars charts in order to describe recurring patterns in cooperation, conflict, and division of responsibility.
合作合盘与婚配合盘的分别
Partnership chart comparison and marriage chart comparison use the same underlying calculation. The difference appears only at the level of interpretation. In marriage readings, the discussion more often concerns modes of getting along, daily rhythm, emotional exchange, and differences in pace. In partnership readings, the emphasis shifts toward resource allocation, division of labor, decision-making habits, and problems that recur in the working relationship.
This does not mean that the two types of reading use different techniques. The same charts, the same Day Master interactions, the same branch relationships, and the same cross-chart stem and branch contacts are examined. What changes is which layer of meaning the reader treats as central. A marriage reading may tolerate a certain amount of resource competition if the emotional rhythm is workable. A partnership reading may tolerate a certain amount of personal friction if the structure of money, authority, and responsibility is clear. The calculation is identical; the reading is not.
两张盘之间能比较的是哪几层
A reliable chart comparison requires two complete Four Pillars charts. The layers that can be compared include the Ten Gods formed by each person’s Day Master against the other person’s stems and branches, the relationship between the two Day Branches, and the interactions between stems and branches across the two charts. These are not interchangeable shortcuts. Using a zodiac sign as a substitute for the other party reduces eight characters to one character and removes the possibility of examining Day Master relations, branch contacts, or Ten God structures.
The Day Branch relationship is especially relevant in partnership readings because it often describes the underlying posture between the two people when they are not performing a role. Cross-chart stem interactions, such as combinations or clashes, describe points of contact where coordination or friction may concentrate. The Ten Gods formed by one Day Master against the other chart describe the functional role each person tends to occupy in the other’s perception and behavior. All of these layers require both full charts. Without them, the reading is not a chart comparison but a looser symbolic association.
合伙、雇佣与同事:三种关系的取象差别
Partnership questions correspond mainly to the Companion and Rob Wealth category. Companion stars are of the same element type as the Day Master, and tradition associates them with peers, equals, and collaborators. When they function favorably in the chart, cooperation tends to bring support. When they function unfavorably, competition and contention over resources become more visible. This is the primary lens for reading a partnership between people who are nominally on the same level.
Employment is different. Officer and Killing stars describe vertical relationships: superiors, subordinates, authority, and imposed structure. They do not describe peer relationships. A colleague is not in the traditional Six Kin correspondence. The Six Kin system maps the Ten Gods to parents, siblings, spouse, and children. Colleagues, superiors, and subordinates are not in that set. Colleagues can only be read by borrowing the Companion category as the closest available representation of a lateral relationship.
When colleagues experience pressure that feels like an Officer or Killing star, the source is usually not the colleague personally. It is more often the distribution of duties, the evaluation mechanism, or the atmosphere of the organization. The pressure may be experienced in the presence of a peer, but the structure producing it is hierarchical. In a partnership context, this distinction matters. Two partners may feel that one is dominating the other, but unless the business structure actually assigns authority unequally, what is being read may be a resource overlap rather than a superior-subordinate bond.
日主两两相见的十种组合
When two Day Masters are placed side by side, the Ten Gods formed by each against the other produce a fixed set of combinations. These are read in both directions. One person may see the other as an Officer while the other sees the first as a Resource. That asymmetry is part of the structural relationship.
The ten combinations arise from the Five Element cycle as expressed through yin and yang polarity. For example, a Yang Wood Day Master meeting another Yang Wood Day Master forms a Companion relation. Meeting Yin Wood forms Rob Wealth. Meeting Fire forms Output or Officer depending on polarity, and so on through Earth, Metal, and Water. The full set of ten covers Companion, Rob Wealth, Output, Eating God, Officer, Killing, Direct Wealth, Indirect Wealth, Direct Resource, and Indirect Resource.
In partnership readings, the most important initial question is whether the interaction between the two Day Masters falls into the Companion category or into a controlling or producing category. Companion-to-Companion and Rob Wealth-to-Rob Wealth relations emphasize similarity, overlap, and shared claims on the same resources. Officer or Killing relations between the two Day Masters may indicate that one party experiences the other as a source of constraint, whether or not the legal structure reflects that. Wealth relations may indicate that one party views the other primarily through money, client access, or asset control.
以合盘结论劝人合伙或散伙的问题
A chart comparison gives the structural relationship between two static charts. It describes tendencies, not events. It can indicate where friction is likely to concentrate, where support may come from, and which roles each person may drift toward. It cannot establish that a particular partnership will succeed or fail.
Using a chart comparison as the basis for advising someone to enter or leave a partnership presents two difficulties. First, there is no verifiable derivation. The same chart combination can be read in different ways depending on which layer is emphasized, and there is no fixed rule that converts a specific stem or branch contact into a definite business outcome. Second, there is no comparable record. Without a defined method for recording predictions and outcomes, the claim that a given chart combination leads to partnership breakdown cannot be checked against a consistent set of past cases.
Before any partnership reading, the practical structure should be clarified: who supplies capital, who makes decisions, who owns client relationships, who bears losses, and how exit terms are written. Reading only the charts without clarifying money, authority, and responsibility risks mistaking personal closeness for structural stability. Two people may have a harmonious chart relationship and still fail as partners because the business structure is unclear. Two people may have a tense chart relationship and still operate a stable partnership because the rules are explicit and the roles do not overlap.
天干五合 is relevant here only in a limited way. The five stem combinations are 甲己化土,乙庚化金,丙辛化水,丁壬化木, and 戊癸化火. When a combination appears but does not transform, it does not indicate that cooperation is poor. It only indicates that certain issues require clearer rules. The presence of a combination without transformation can describe an area of repeated negotiation, not a sign that the relationship is unworkable.
Ultimately, 八字看合作关系 is best understood as a descriptive tool. It organizes the recurring structural tendencies between two people: how they see each other, where their resources overlap, and which roles they are likely to occupy. It is not a substitute for the legal and financial structure of the partnership itself. The charts can show where attention is needed; they cannot replace the written terms that determine who actually controls what.
